Has Port Townsend Ever Considered A Goat For Mayor?
This was supposed to be fun and snarky, but as I researched David J. Faber things got progressively weirder and more serious.
I’ve never put too much thought into what type of person becomes mayor. If I try to think of notable people who peaked at being mayors and are remembered primarily for being one…the examples aren’t great. Only one mayor on that mental list doesn’t have a known cocaine addiction - Mayor Rudy Giuliani of New York. The other two that came to mind are Rob Ford of Toronto, and Marion Berry of D.C. All the other mayors that come to mind are cartoon characters, and those are often portrayed as incompetent, bumbling bureaucrats.
David Faber has been the mayor of Port Townsend since January 2020. To be clear, I am not claiming that he has a cocaine addiction or is secretly a cartoon character. What I am saying is this—The guy is notably weird and simply unpleasant.
I spoke on the phone with an anonymous Port Townsend resident who describes Faber as an “arrogant bully” who doesn’t actually represent the majority of Port Townsend. Faber grew up in the well-off part of town, and as an adult and politician, those are still the constituents he represents: the wealthy 8% of the population. Incidentally, we can’t blame the people of Port Townsend for Faber - they didn’t vote for him. He was appointed by his fellow city council members.
After the interaction I have personally had with him on Twitter - in which I saw the way he dismisses women’s valid concerns for their rights - the phrase ‘arrogant bully’ sounds about right.
Here he retweets activist Amy Sousa’s tweet and pulls a move that is reminiscent of Corey Lewandowski infamous “womp womp”.
Amy Sousa is a Port Townsend native and was already well established with women’s rights advocacy when the issue of women’s and girls sex based boundaries hit home.
She has an interview with Jaman which can be viewed below.
She has also been involved in hitting the local media circuit and was recently interviewed by Dori Monson, a Seattle Based News Radio Host. She expressed her own frustration with Faber and his treatment of her on twitter.
David Faber is a huge disappointment right now. You know, regardless of what he thinks is best. He is laughing in the face of women’s concerns. I posted about this on my twitter you know, ‘Do you think women and girls have the right to have boundaries around their body?’ He responded to me with ‘Zoopity Boop’.
That was his response to me.
This was the response of a public servant to a woman who is a rape survivor who is asking what expectations I can have for sex based protections around my body. He is laughing at my concerns. He is not taking my concerns with a respectful approach.

Speaking of Inappropriate Tweets
For context, the Rice Purity Test is a “series of 100 questions that aims to assess your level of “innocence” or experience in relation to a range of issues, such as crime, sex, drugs and alcohol use.” What compels a Mayor in his thirties to participate in a “Gen Z trend” and then not just post it on a public facing account but directly correlate his score to his role in public service?
A Little About Faber
If you have been following the evolution of “woke” politics, it should come as no surprise that David completed his undergraduate degree at the now-infamous Evergreen State College. Located in Olympia, Washington, it was the first college in the US to be completely held hostage by its students over modern ‘social justice’ demands.
YouTube interviewer Benjamin Boyce, who is located in Olympia himself, made a thorough, in-depth analysis that can be viewed below.
Outside of his role as mayor, Faber is an attorney and partner at Faber Feinson PLLC. According to his site, he “practices in the area of estate planning (including wills, trusts, & powers of attorney), real property transactions, probate, business formation, and contracts.” His business partner Sam Feinson has been supportive of Faber, retweeting the mantra, “Trans women are women” and engaging with activists who speak against Faber. However, Feinson’s responses are much more measured. He’s still a misogynist, referring to women’s rights activists as “transphobes” and “FARTs” but at this point, that is standard behavior in progressive ‘woke’ men.
Our Exchange on Twitter
On August 9th, Faber published a town proclamation, stating random statistics on the trans community, none of which were related to The Port Townsend Free Press’ reporting on Julie Jaman being banned from her local YMCA pool.
I found him lamenting about the attention Port Townsend was receiving on his twitter.
Faber’s response was to link me to the WA law that states people can use facilities that align with their ‘gender identity’ but the situation we are dealing with is not actually covered by said law. Accessibility to facilities, access to employment, or housing is part of the discussion but it is not the discussion.
Candice Jackson, an attorney licensed to practice in Washington, explained the root of the issue in a recent twitter thread.
Good news: WA law prohibits sex & sexual orientation discrimination in facilities like the YMCA.
Bad news: WA law has refined “sex” to be: “Sex means gender.” (No definition of “gender,” of course.) And has defined sexual orientation to “include” “gender identity.”The absurdities abound: “Sex means gender” is circular & nonsensical but erases the female sex class. “Gender identity” is not a sexual orientation (& erases the concept of a SEXual orientation.) A discrimination law that pits a defined group (women) against a subjective “group” of people who have a “gender identity or gender expression” isn’t defining a characteristic or a group at all, as everyone can claim an identity & literally everyone has “expression.” Legal lunacy trampling women’s rights, dignity, & safety must be legally challenged.
What Faber is saying is that trans identified males have a ‘right’ to is to supervise little girls in a state of undress and that women have right no right control their space. His associate Sam Feinson, seems to agree.
Twitter user @FemaleHornbag pushed back on Faber and Feinson’s motivations and accused the two of advocating for the rights of men. The kicker is, Faber did not deny the accusation but said they were doing it because they were lawyers.
Male caregivers who are properly vetted can and do provide care to venerable females of all ages. The difference is families and patients can request care from someone of their own sex without fear of retribution or social shaming. Male caregivers also don’t access women’s spaces to provide care.
The City has posted a Q and A in which the question of parental knowledge is covered. The phrasing implies that parents were not informed that their female child was receiving a form of intimate care from a male but found out mid controversy.
While speaking with Faber, observing him callously dismiss women, and going through his twitter history I couldn’t help but ask “what is WITH this guy?” It took one tweet to suddenly bring his behavior into perspective.
If you know who Vaush is, you might have experienced a feeling like I did. I can only describe it as “if the clang of an anvil was a feeling.” His callous, uncaring behavior towards women; his lazy, blasé approach to criticism and controversy; his disregard for child safeguarding - it all made sense now.
If you are lucky enough to be blissfully unaware of who Vaush is, I will catch you up in the next substack. What I have already posted is a lot to digest - but it gets deeper. As in, Faber has a history of failing child safeguarding at an almost catastrophic level.
The follow up to this story has been posted below
I think this is a useful piece that shows the character of the Port Townsend mayor... and it’s shocking to me how such an unserious person is tasked with being a representative. The fact that this person wasn’t even ELECTED by the people is mind-blowing. There should be a campaign to press the city officials that put this man in a position of authority. THEY need to be pressured to account for his public Tweets. If he won’t respond in a serious way, those officials need to be put on the spot & asked about his responses on social media. Most towns/cities have standards for social media by officials. This guy isn’t acting in good faith to reasonable concerns relating to the safety & dignity of women & girls. Make the others defend this, they’ll realize their own political futures are on the line.
The town of Sunol, CA elected a dog as mayor.
